MIDDLE LOVE

I want a little middle love
The kind that’s easy at the ends
The kind that starts before it does
The kind that borrows when it lends

I want a little middle love
So you can be my better half
So I can be a better man
So you can smile and I can laugh

Middle love, my middle love
You fit me like a well-worn glove
The softness when I hold you tight
The night is quiet, the moon is bright

Your middle love is never far
It wraps around me, keeps me here
Its outer edges mark my heart
So I won’t wander from you dear

I want a little middle love
To buy the future with our past
I want a little middle love
Because that is the kind that lasts

I want a little middle love
The kind that plays, then gently sleeps
My middle love, my truest love
Give your all, and all I’ll keep

Middle love, my middle love
You fit me like a well-worn glove
The gladness when I hold you tight
The stars come close to share your light

And I’m with you girl, here tonight…

One thought on “MIDDLE LOVE

  1. I wrote this song for my wife. Because we’ve been married 20 years and although our marriage still has fun and playfulness and sex and romance, it has also, over the years, accumulated what I can the Middle Love. Meaning real friendship, and a sort of easy-going relaxation around the other. A sort of Middle Way, or a sort of happy familiarity.

When I wrote down the title-note for Side Salad Girl I also wrote down the title, “Middle Love,” and the phrase, “I want a little Middle Love.” Knowing that would remind me of what I had meant by the term Middle Love.

Well, this morning after I finished Side Salad Girl and then ate my lunch I decided to sit down and write Middle Love as well. The lyrics came very easily, though it is an entirely different kind of song than Side Salad Girl. Middle Love is an easy going, soft, love ballad.

I can imagine it on either the piano or the guitar, maybe both.

Anyway, that’s not bad productivity for a coupla days. In the past two days I have written three songs, this one, Middle Love, Side Salad Girl (see the blog post below), and Everyone (a couple of posts below).

Three complete songs in two days is not a bad output at all. Sometimes I get in a song-writing mood like that and get pretty hot.

But for the rest of today I’m gonna relax and catch up on the World Cup matches. Looking forward to that.

    Have a great weekend folks.
