Nobel Prizes in Literature

I had a slow day today, given that I finished my finals last night. Unfortunately my biological clock is still set so I get up around 6am to do work. This morning, rather than reading a really excellent book on the handover in Hong Kong I’ve been waiting to get to, I decided to make a dataset of the Nobel Prizes handed out in Literature from 1901-2015.

Above find an interactive map of every nobel prize laureate from 1901 to present day, geotagged with their place of birth. There are a couple notable exceptions, where authors were born in colonies, but are traditionally considered to be from the ruling power. For example Albert Camus was born in Algeria, but lived most of his life in France. For these authors I used the cities of their death to locate them on the map.
